I was recently at Union Square Green Market to pick up some maple candy from Deep Mountain (http://deepmountainmaple.com/green-market) for friends. Check out these rainbow carrots from Paffenroth Gardens. The texture! The colors! Oh, and the pecan maple candy rocks, too.
In NYC, on my way to have French Onion Soup Dumplings at The Stanton Social, I happened across this amazing macaron shop: Biscous Ciao (http://www.bisousciao.com/). Bright, colorful and simple interior design, this was a shop you wanted to step into! And, the macarons were delightful. I shared a dulce de leche as an appetizer!
Last week, I had the good fortune to attend Amy Rowat's last class/demo for her Science and Food class at UCLA. I had connected with her about my terra cibus project when she was teaching at Harvard, and she's now since relocated to California and bringing all of her great knowledge to us! The day […]
Barndiva's Salon des Sens exhibition was quite a success during the opening reception this weekend. A big thank you to Studio Barndiva and Curator Maggie Spicer who organized quite a 'palatable' exhibition revolving around the food we eat. As I flowed through the crowds, it was quite evident how art can influence our relationship to […]
We're very excited to be included with Maggie Spicer and BarnDiva for Salon des Sens opening in less than one month! Mark your calendar to come celebrate a melting pot of creative and conceptual art centered around our food. And, if you like Jazz, it's the opening weekend of the Healdsburg Jazz Festival (http://www.healdsburgjazzfestival.org). […]
2012 is off to a busy start! I've been in London for the past couple weeks, with a quick stop at the end in New York, meeting with galleries and commercial clients on both sides of the pond.
While I was in London I heard about a liquid nitrogen ice cream parlor called the chin chin laboratorists. With my jam packed schedule I had to make a special trip to Camden Lock for a Sunday morning ice cream breakfast. Let's just say I was not dissappointed.
Owners Ahrash Akbari-Kalhur (pictured below) and Nyisha Weber were so nice, and their ice cream is INSANE. I had their delectable dark chocolate ice cream drizzled with salted caramel and topped with with candied pretzels. Definitely make the trip the next time you're there!
As promised, here is the link for my interview on The Food Seen with Michael Harlan Turkell on Heritage Radio Network discussing my terra cibus project. You can also download it via iTunes along with lots of other cool Food Seen episodes. Thank you, Michael, so much for having me on your show! Alex Talbot, […]
Three images from my "terra cibus" series are included in "Food Con 2" at the Harrison Center for the Arts, Indianapolis, IN, 2 September – 30 September, 2011 ***UPDATE*** The Indianapolis Star did a write-up on the exhibit
We gained a couple pounds this week thanks to Arnon Oren of Oren's Kitchen and his slow-roasted artisan nuts. It is the pleasure and the burden of a food photography studio to be given such tasty food gifts.
We shot images for his catering services and those scrumptiously addictive nuts which, incidentally, can also be purchased at Whole Foods if you'd like to develop an addiction of your own.
"terra cibus no.4: fortune cookie" has been selected for the "Top 40 International Juried Exhibition", LACDA, Los Angeles, CA, 9 June – 29 July, 2011 http://www.lacda.com Artists' reception is June 9 during the LA Artwalk.
